Traumatic Brain Injury Center Receives Award

Traumatic brain injury is a national problem with over 1.7 million people being treated every year in the US for traumatic and mild traumatic brain injuries.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area we’re lucky. Not only do we have a world class and leading hospital studying and treating traumatic brain injuries – UCSF – but that institution just received $18.8 million from the National Institutes of Health.

The money will be used to continue UCSF’s research and work on concussion and traumatic brain injury – including new treatments, better intervention and prevention.

We have a dedicated page and blog category for traumatic brain injury, which you can access here.

The chart to the right produced by UCSF, indicates the top causes of brain injuries, the estimated costs to society, and how the money award it by the NIH will be utilized.
