New Practice Guide For Personal Injury Attorneys

In San Francisco, much like anywhere in California, the Rutter Group’s practice guides are to attorneys what water is to fish. In fact, when we first began our practice in California without Rutter we wouldn’t have known one end of a lawsuit from the other.

But of course, other states have their own practice guide series some of which are revered much as the bible in their own state. And in Texas, where we also practice and where we started our practice, the bible for attorneys and lawyers of all breeds is O’Connor’s. And we may be a little biased here because we began practicing law using O’Connor’s, but we always wished that Rutters was organized, updated and laid out a little more O’Connor’s. Well, guess what, we got our wish.

O’Connor’s has developed a California Civil Pretrial practice series that we have started using recently and we give it high marks. Here is what we like about it:

  • It’s written by practicing attorneys, academics, and judges.
  • It’s meticulously edited.
  • It’s laid out logically and organized around a lawsuit – general concepts, attorneys & judges, plaintiff’s lawsuit, defendant’s response, pretrial motions, discovery & privileges, methods of discovery, subpoenas, discovery disputes, disposition without trial, the California Evidence Code, and an index.
  • It’s commentary are drawn from and reference CEB, Witkin and Rutter.
  • It’s accurate, authoritative and complete.
  • It’s one volume that can easily be carried home, to a depo, a hearing or on a flight.
  • It’s updated every year.
  • No more inserting updates into those damn binders.
  • Takes up less space on the shelf.

And what we don’t like about it – so far, nothing.

The guide can be found at JonesMcClure.com and sells for about $100 with a subscription or $130 without one.

Enjoy.
